Before you begin, please review these simple, but important, instructions:
You will always remain anonymous in Trace; no personal information is stored in this database.
PLEASE DO NOT INPUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION INTO TRACE FIELDS.
Information such as names, addresses, phone numbers, account numbers, or images identifying any person can cause your record to be rejected.
If your property is identified by a public or police search, the San Antonio Police will be immediately notified and will handle the lead appropriately. If an item belonging to you is recovered, the police agency will contact you directly (it is not necessary to contact them to check the status).
Serial numbers and distinctive marks are very important.
A serial number dramatically increases exposure of your missing property to the police and the public nationally and even globally on many items. If the serial number, value, and description of the item are present, the item will be sent to the state’s stolen property system and the FBI’s national system. Law Enforcement Officers around the Nation access the FBI's NCIC system millions of times each day, which significantly increases the likelihood that the thief will be caught and your property returned.
If you do not know your item’s serial number, try contacting anyone that may have recorded the number such as the original retailer, any repair shops that serviced it, previous owners, insurers, etc.
While serial numbers are the most important detail, additional information like photos, distinctive marks, and descriptions can also be very helpful.
You can edit a record after you have submitted it to the police by signing back in through www.trace.com.
