The Concert By Vermeer On March 18th 1990 the museum was robbed by 2 unknown men dressed in Boston police uniforms. They gained entry, tied up the security guards with duct tape & handcuffs and made off with 12 pictures, drawings, an etching & a Chinese beaker. The Concert by Vermeer and Storm on the Sea of Galilee by Rembrandt were two priceless works stolen.

View of the Sea at Scheveningen In December 2002, two thieves used a ladder to climb to the roof and break in to the Vincent Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In just a few minutes the thieves stole two paintings: Van Gogh’s View of the Sea at Scheveningen and Congregation Leaving the Reformed Church in Nuenen, valued at $30 million. Dutch police convicted two men in December 2003, but did not recover the paintings.

View of Auvers-sur-Oise by Paul Cezanne The gang struck at the Ashmolean Museum - part of Oxford University - as New Year revellers celebrating the Millenium were thronging the streets. The thieves were believed to have broken in through the construction site for a new library which was attached to the museum, clambered across the roof and lowered themselves through a glass roof by rope ladders to snatch the paiting.
